Trend Spotlight: Military

Topshop Unique

Military has always had a big influence on every season, but for AW12/13 this influence is more focused with many trend predictions reporting military as being big news.

Military on the Catwalk for Max Mara

With this in mind today's spotlight is on the military trend, and highlighting some of the best interpretations for this trend within childrenswear.

Military Style on the Catwalk for New Generals

There is a danger with the military trend that you could look like a fully fledged solider on tour, with this in mind choose one or two pieces and keep the rest of the look as simple as possible.

Military Shirt www.zara.com

I love this oversized shirt from Zara Kids, its just so effortlessly cool. This would look great with a pair of black skinny jeans and some super cool baseball boots. It would also work well over a girly dress for that grungy Camden look.

Military Jacket www.stellamccartney.co.uk/en/kids/home

This Stella McCartney jacket is such a statement piece that it really does need to be toned down to get away from the fancy dress issue. Team it with some rolled up baggy fit bleached denim jeans and some delicate ballet pumps to give a contradicted but put together outfit. I would totally wear this!

Camo Jeans www.next.co.uk

Be careful with items such as these camo jeans from Next, as they could look too uniformed. A bright pink t-shirt will offset this and add a girly touch to a male dominated print.

Hitched Dress www.eliasandgrace.com

I love this hitched dress from Morley, the khaki green tone of this piece would work with alot of colours but I would love to see it with a pair of bright yellow tights and some brown leather high-tops. Top the look off with a lovely thick knit beanie and scarf.

Miller Beanie www.eliasandgrace.com

Millie Scarf www.eliasandgrace.com

This super cool knitted beanie and scarf set from Morleys would work well with the dress, as it will lift the khaki green colour enough and give it a great autumnal feel!

Military Bag www.allycapellino.co.uk

Ally Capellino has always designed bags with a utility feel and this kids bag is just perfect for the military trend. This bag would be great for school as well as adventures!

Military Style Boot www.fingerinthenose.com
Black Patent Dr. Martens www.store.drmartens.co.uk

You have to have a military style boot in this report and rock and roll brand Finger in The Nose have come up with the goods with their walking style boots, but if you want to have the original you can't beat good old Dr. Martens!

Camo Statement T-Shirt www.scotch-soda.com or www.childsplayclothing.co.uk

There are quite a few military adored t-shirts around for kids, but I just love this one! I love the writing over the camo print, it gives it a very much statement feel!

What I would love to see is this tee teamed with a OTT fancy pink frilly netted princess skirt and big black Dr. Martens! Millie when she was younger had a camo tee very similar to this from No Added Sugar and I did the same thing. People were astonished!

Bellerose Military Coat www.eliasandgrace.com

Here are a few other pieces I love that will work well with this trend!

Make a date in your diaries!!!

H&M has been a staple brand in Millie's wardrobe, I can't count how many of their stripy t-shirts she has! But after reading Vogue I discovered that H&M have produced yet another childrenswear collection with UNICEF for AW12/13 and wowzers this collection is beyond fabulous!!! (And I never say wowzers in public!)

The sales of this collection will go towards H&M's All For Children Initiative, that benefits UNICEF programmes to improve the lives of children.

What I love about this collection is that from the offset the basis of the collection is that of "dress up", but not dress up as you may know it, but playful wearable pieces with elements of fun designed into every stitch!

I love the fact that Millie could be wearing a simple dress with a flamingo hat!

Or a pair of skinny jeans a tee and a black velvet cape!

I also love this pretty powder pink dress from the collection! You could toughen this up with a great pair of black patent Dr. Martens!

Have a look at the video that shows off the clothing perfectly!

The fact that it is produced in collaboration with UNICEF with fun wearable pieces I think is great, as hopefully from the money raised it might give children in less fortunate situations a hope of fun themselves!

In UK stores from 18th October! Remember save the date! WOWZERS!!!!!

Rain rain, please go away!!!

Waking up to the sound of the rain can be quite nice if you don't have to venture out! But on a Monday morning, the wet weather and the school run just do not mix!

Goggle Umbrellas www.designboom.com

I have however, found a few super cool things to help lift your spirits when the heavens open!

Classic Yellow Raincoat www.petit-bateau.co.uk

This yellow fisherman's style raincoat from Petit Bateau doesn't just add a bit of sunshine on a dull morning, the oilskin coating means it is completely waterproof too!

Rainbow Raincoat from Molo www.childrensalon.com or www.molo-kids.com

I love Danish brand Molo and I will do a spotlight on the brand very soon as there are so many super cool items for kids! But I fell in love with this coat and wellington boots the first time I set eyes on them!

Rainbow Wellington Boots www.molo-kids.com

I love rain capes and I have selected the best out there, I know they are high end designers but I just couldn't resist posting about them!

Fendi Rain Cape www.melijoe.co.uk

I love this brown Fendi rain cape as its just so classic and will work well with various outfits!

Stella McCartney Rain Cape www.stellamccartney.com/default/kids/home

I have posted about Stella's range for kids before and I am always pleased with her offerings for childrenswear. Fun, cool and practical! Perfect!

Barbour and Liberty Jacket www.liberty.co.uk/fcp/categorylist/designer/barbour-childrens

Barbour jackets have become the staple rainwear label for the cool kids in London and beyond, and this collaboration with Liberty for their kidswear collection is just so cute!

Kids love umbrellas, its a fact! And there are some really great ones out there! Here is a pick of a few I think they will love!

Stella McCartney Umbrella www.stellamccartney.com/default/kids/home

I love this umbrella and I am very tempted to buy it for myself! Turning the umbrella around you can make funny faces! Again something fun but practical you will find from Stella's Kidswear collection!

Red Dior Umbrella www.childrensalon.com

Ok I know this is a bit special but I just couldn't help but post about it! So girly and pretty, this Dior umbrella wouldn't look out of place in Chelsea daaaarling!

Red Polka Dot Retro Umbrella www.childrensalon.com

Super cute retro design!

This retro inspired umbrella from Powell Craft is perfect for little hands, with the shorter wooden handle! Complement this design by an vintage inspired outfit!

High Vis Umbrella www.umbrellaheaven.com

As the nights become darker, the walk home from school can seem quite glum! This high vis umbrella will not only provide a safety element but will add a little fun on the way back home for a hot chocolate!

Frilly Purple Umbrella www.umbrellaheaven.com

I am not sure how waterproof or how strong this delicate looking umbrella is, but its just so pretty I had to post about it! Millie's favourite colour is purple, and although she thinks shes a tom boy I am sure she'd love this!

I am not sure if you can buy these umbrellas but I found them when I was researching for this post! So fun and so funky!

Have a look at some of these amazing inventions!!! You would totally want it to rain all the time if you owned any of these!!!

Will totally protect you from any form of rain!

Handy!

I just want these!

So cute, the ultimate romantic gesture!

Great for the dark nights!

This is a water gun... Not a real gun!!!
My favourite! COFFEE holder!
